Waterway restoration, Yarralumla Creek, Lady Denman Drive, Yarralumla
The Yarralumla Creek catchment is one of the oldest urbanised areas in the ACT. Only small remnant areas of nature reserve survive with the main waterway, Yarralumla Creek, discharging high sediment and nutrient loads into the Molonglo River.
This waterway restoration on Yarralumla Creek, approximately two kilometres upstream from the confluence with the Molonglo River, is designed to reduce erosion, particularly on the Creek banks.
The works, immediately downstream of the engineered concrete channel servicing the Yarralumla urban catchment, include the repair or heavily eroding banks of the Creek with, concrete blockwalls, gabions and reinforced planting, and repair of various patches of scour in and around the channel using reno mattress.
The works will prevent over 132,000 kilogram each year of suspended sediment, nitrogen and phosphorous entering the Molonglo River.
Construction will be completed by the end of June 2019.
