Provisional registrations

Heritage in the ACT

The ACT is rich in natural and cultural heritage. Although the city is relatively young, we have many heritage places or objects, including Aboriginal, rural, historic and iconic Canberra places and objects.

The ACT Heritage Council and ACT Heritage work together to recognise, protect, conserve and celebrate these unique heritage places and objects.

The Council is responsible for keeping a register of places and objects in the ACT which have heritage significance at the Territory level. Before a place or object is put on the ACT Heritage Register, it must first be nominated and, should the Heritage Council endorse the nomination, provisionally registered. The community then has an opportunity to provide comments on the provisional registration.
