The Canberra and Region Heritage Festival is back in 2027!
The 2027 Heritage Festival is on from Saturday 10 April to Sunday 9 May. It’s a fun way to learn about the history and culture of Canberra and nearby regions.
The festival is coordinated by the ACT Government with events delivered by community and business event holders.
The 2027 theme, Capital Stories: 1927 to 2027, celebrates a century of people, places and stories that have shaped Canberra and the surrounding region. It reflects on the defining moments that have influenced the city’s development from the first sitting of the Australian Parliament in Canberra to the vibrant national capital it is today.
These 100 years form only part of the deep history of this place. Even if your event doesn’t match the theme, you can still take part! All events showcasing the diverse heritage of our region are welcome.
How to get involved as an event holder
Registrations for event holders open on Monday 2 November 2026.Registering an event is free and is a great way to share your stories with the community.
To participate, your event must:
- take place between 10 April and 9 May 2027. Events that start before or end after these dates are still eligible, provided they run at some point during the festival.
- be an engaging offering that connects people to the heritage of our region.
- be registered between 2 November and 11 December 2026.
If you are unsure if your organisation can put on an event alone, we encourage you to explore partnerships with other organisations, community groups and businesses to broaden your reach, share resources and create new opportunities to participate in the festival.

Timeline
- Monday 2 November 2026 – Event registrations open
- Friday 11 December 2026 – Event registrations close
- Mid-March 2027 – Festival launch and events listed on the website
- Saturday 10 April 2027 – Festival starts
- Sunday 9 May 2027 – Festival ends
