New biosecurity laws are coming to the ACT

The ACT Government is implementing new biosecurity laws to help protect the Canberra community, economy and its environment from pests and diseases.

Biosecurity is the management of risks to the economy, the environment, and the community, of pests and diseases entering, emerging, establishing or spreading in our environment.

The new laws will streamline our biosecurity processes and encourage cooperation with our NSW counterparts. This includes the introduction of a ‘general biosecurity duty’ which outlines the prevention, elimination and minimisation of biosecurity risks as a shared responsibility of all Canberrans.

If you deal with biosecurity risks, there may be changed or new requirements you need to follow. To find out if you need to act, visit the ACT Government Biosecurity webpage.
