Protection from pest animals

Protection from pest animals

The Government is proposing to further protect our environment from animals that could harm biodiversity, ecosystems and our way of life in the Canberra region.

One of the best ways we can look after our natural environment and protect our native species is to prevent invasive animals and other non-native animals from establishing in the Territory. Where they are already here, we need to manage them for minimal impact.

The Canberra community has the opportunity to:

  • comment on new proposed listings to the Pest Animals Declaration
  • read an information paper that removes some non-native animals from the Exempt Species Declaration, thereby requiring them to have licences
  • How to best transition people who may keep any of these affected animals without hurting the animals or damaging the environment.
