Celebrate National Volunteer Week

National Volunteer Week (Monday 20 May to Sunday 26 May 2019) is annual celebration where the contribution of volunteers around Australia is recognised and acknowledged.

Did you know that the rate of volunteering in the ACT is the highest in Australia with 36.8 per cent of Canberrans participating in volunteer activities each year?

We value and recognise the immense contribution of our 750 registered ParkCare volunteers who contributed over 30,000 hours of their time in 2017/18 towards protecting, enhancing and promoting our parks and reserves.

To celebrate and give back to those who give so much to us, entry to Tidbinbilla Nature Reserve during the long weekend – Saturday 25 to Monday 27 May 2019 will be FREE for all our environmental (ParkCare/Waterwatch/Catchment Groups/Landcare) volunteers and volunteers who work in the community services sector assisting vulnerable community members, particularly in the domestic violence space.

This year, we are also celebrating the 30th anniversary of ParkCare. It began in 1989 when there was interest from community in caring for our bushlands. With a mere 13 people engaged in weed management during its inception, the ParkCare initiative as it is now known today, has grown to 750 volunteers that care for reserves all across the ACT.
