ACT flood maps now available

The Government has released new flood maps that provide the most comprehensive flood risk information ever available for Canberra.

The new flood maps show the expected extent, depth and flow of flood water during a major flood, including the relative hazard of the water.

The maps will help the community better prepare for and respond to floods. The Government is using the maps to highlight risk areas, improve planning, build infrastructure to better protect risk areas.

Canberra is very well planned in terms of managing riverine floods and has a low risk of flooding and associated damage to property. Only two major floods have ever been recorded in the ACT, in Woden in 1971 and along Sullivan’s Creek in February 2018.
