Renewable electricity costs and reviews

ACT large-scale feed-in tariff cost data

Under the Electricity Feed-in (Large-scale Renewable Energy Generation) Act 2011 (the Act), the ACT electricity distributor (currently Evoenergy) provides the Minister for Climate Change and Sustainability with quarterly reports about large feed-in tariff payment and network connection costs for renewable generators supported under the Act. These quarterly reports must be publicly released by the Minister. A summary of these reports is shown in the graphs below.

ACT electricity distributors are obligated under section 21 of the Electricity Feed-in (Large-scale Renewable Energy Generation) Act 2011 (the Act) to provide the Minister for the Environment with quarterly reports about network connection and feed-in tariff costs associated with generators that hold a feed-in tariff entitlement under the Act.

These quarterly reports must be publicly released by the Minister within three months of being received by the Minister and must contain:

  • the cost of connecting the generator to the ACT’s electricity distribution system, and maintaining it
  • the quantity of eligible electricity supplied by the generator to the interconnected national electricity system in a trading interval
  • the feed-in tariff support payment paid by the ACT electricity distributor to the generator during the quarter.

ACT large-scale feed-in tariff reviews

Under the Act, each release of feed-in tariff supported capacity must be reviewed after it has been allocated and the Act itself must be reviewed every five years. Links to the reviews undertaken to date are below.

Solar auctions review

In 2013, Sinclair Knight Merz reviewed the two 20MW large-scale solar auctions conducted in 2012 and 2013.

Wind auctions reviews

In 2015, Jacobs Group Australia reviewed the 200MW Wind Auction I conducted in 2014.

In 2016, AECOM Australia reviewed the 200MW Wind Auction II conducted in 2015.

Next Generation Renewables Auction and Large Feed-in Tariff Act review

In 2017, Jacobs Group Australia reviewed the Next Generation Renewables Auction conducted in 2016, as well as the Electricity Feed-in (Large-scale Renewable Energy Generation) Act 2011 following its first five years of operation.
