Ian has had a rural upbringing, and 25 years’ experience in the agricultural research and development sector.

In 2011, Ian stepped down from a position as a General Manager with Meat & Livestock Australia having accumulated over two decades of experience in national research, development and extension investment and management for rural industries in the not-for-profit research and development corporation environment.

His experience has included the role of Program Manager responsible for research, development and extension in Southern Australia for all beef, sheepmeat and goat production, and eight years working for the pork industry (1998-2006), including 6 years establishing and leading the Research & Innovation team within Australian Pork Ltd. All these roles have included substantive research portfolios in sustainable agriculture.

Ian is currently a consultant with a focus on rural research, development and extension investment strategy, program development and evaluation. He lives in a rural residential community, and is the President of the local Carwoola Community Association, and a longstanding, active member of the local LandCare group.
