Alison is a Palawa woman – her mother’s country is in the Ben Lomond region of North East Tasmania. Her 35 year career as an Australian Government public servant includes 17 years in the corporate and human resource management sectors, and 18 years as a senior manager in heritage, environment and natural resource management (NRM). She was the Director of the NSW/ACT NRM team in the Australian Government Department of the Environment for 7 years until her retirement in 2013. As part of this role she was integrally involved in developing and managing bilateral agreements and effective working relationships with the NSW and ACT governments, regional NRM bodies and key community-based NRM organisations. During this period, she also managed the then Indigenous Policy Branch within the department for 8 months, significantly advancing the implementation of the highly successful Working on Country initiative.
