Recycling

Canberrans are the best recyclers in the country, with around 75% of all material that be recycled being diverted from landfill at the household level.

However, there is still work that can be done in both household recycling and certain other areas, such as commercial and industrial waste and electronic waste.

The ACT Government recognises this and is taking action to improve the performance of the non-residential sectors when it comes to recycling.

The ACTSmart Business and Office programs were launched in August 2009 and are already diverting hundreds of tonnes a month of waste from landfill.

In addition, the ACT Government is committed to the development of a national television and computer recycling scheme, due to commence in 2011. For more information, please visit the Territory and Municipal Services Directorate website www.tams.act.gov.au
