Freesia and tricolour harlequin flower

tricolour harlequin flower

Two old fashioned garden plants, from South Africa, are starting to be detected more frequently in Canberra Nature Park Reserves and Urban Native Grasslands. The plants are: Freesia hybrid (freesia) and Sparaxis tricolor (tricolour harlequin flower). They may have pretty flowers but these two species have become serious environmental weeds in other parts of Australia. They displace our unique and colourful native wildflowers.

If you spot either of these species in a conservation reserve please take a photo and record on Canberra Nature Map http://canberranaturemap.org/
