(Pennisetum setaceum)

The invasive weed, African Fountain Grass, has been discovered in the ACT.

It is often mistaken for similar ornamental grasses such as Foxtail Grasses and other Fountain Grasses.

It has the potential to spread into natural areas and agricultural land causing considerable damage and control costs.

African Fountain Grass is prohibited for sale in the ACT. It is also a noxious weed in NSW.

African Fountain Grass is a large tussock grass. It has numerous plume like seed heads which are between 10cm and 25cm long. They are mauve in colour.
