ParkCare and Urban Landcare
The ParkCare and Urban Landcare Program is a partnership between the ACT Government and community volunteer groups who have an interest in their local environment. Volunteers actively contribute to protecting natural and cultural sites in local parks and nature reserves throughout the ACT, including Namadgi National Park, Tidbinbilla Nature Reserve and Googong Foreshores.
ParkCare and Landcare volunteers undertake a variety of activities including seed collection, plant propagation, tree planting, weed removal, erosion control, vegetation mapping and recording, water quality monitoring, raising community awareness and the maintenance and restoration of heritage places.
Anyone can become a ParkCarer or Landcare volunteer, all that is needed is enthusiasm! Previous experience or special skills are not required, just an interest in making a difference. Training, equipment and support are provided.
"For me ParkCare means being in the bush with others who share my interests in looking after the plants, animals and landscapes there." -Sarah Hnatuik, volunteer coordinator of the Mount Painter ParkCare group
