Canberra’s foresters and forestry workers tell their stories

In celebration of Canberra Tree Week 2018, we are launching a new book, Forest Capital – a story that has been almost 25 years in the making.

The book is a collection of ten interviews from Canberra foresters and forestry workers who have helped shape the ACT industry.

Originally collected in 1994 by historian and editor, Brendan O’Keefe, the interviews were thought to be lost after disastrous fires in 2003 that destroyed more than 60% of the Territory’s plantation timber and Stromlo office which held nearly all of the ACT Forest historical records.

In 2007, a routine office clean-up at the Hume Weighbridge rediscovered transcripts and Forest Capital was born.
