Compliance and Enforcement
The Water Resources Act 2007 (the Act) includes compliance and enforcement provisions to protect water resources and ensure their sustainable and equitable use for future generations.
The Environment Protection Authority is responsible for administering the compliance and enforcement provisions of the Act.
The Australian government also has an interest in protecting water resources and has initiated programs at a national level to support regulatory functions of State and Territory jurisdictions. The National Framework for Compliance and Enforcement Systems for Water Resource Management is a collaborative reform program agreed by the Council of Australian Governments and funded by the Australian Government.
