Community Energy Grants

The ACT Government's Community Energy Grants have provided more than $1.2 million to community groups to help make the premises they occupy more energy efficient.

The combined capacity of the solar PV systems installed through the program is 239kW, enough to produce 662,986 kilowatt hours of clean energy each year and reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 590 tonnes a year, or the equivalent to taking 137 cars off our roads for a year.

In addition, the total volume of solar hot water heater systems installed through the program is 1,520 litres.

The program provides funding to help ACT-based, not-for-profit, incorporated community groups to install renewable energy technologies, such as solar photovoltaic panels, wind generators and solar hot water, in buildings they occupy.

The recipients of the grants were announced by Simon Corbell MLA, Minister for Energy, on 14 April 2010.

ACT Environment Grants

The recipients of the 2010-11 ACT Environment Grants have been announced, with total funding for the 18 projects amounting to more than $211,000.

The ACT Environment Grants have been funded annually since 1997 and are currently administered by the Department of the Environment, Climate Change, Energy and Water. The Program is focussed on supporting the community to undertake environmental activities that complement delivery of the Government's environmental priorities, as articulated in The Canberra Plan: Towards our Second Century External link and in 2010 particularly in relation to the International Year of Biodiversity External link.
