Interstate and international deployments

Fire crew on an interstate deployment Memorandums of Understanding (MOU) have been developed with interstate and international fire authorities for the supply of fire fighting personnel and equipment when required. The Parks and Conservation Service (PCS) supports the involvement of personnel in interstate fire suppression and prescribed burning activities. The benefit is two-fold: we provide support to our neighbours in a time of need while also providing practical experience, training and mentoring to our employees.

PCS has a long history of sending personnel overseas to assist in large and protracted bushfires. This includes deployments to the Unites States (2006, 2008 and 2015) and to Canada (2009, 2014 and 2015). Personnel have gained experience while performing high level roles on large-campaign fires which has improved their skill-set and proven to be beneficial upon their return to Australia.
